Set on a rectangular base, the charming scene depicts a dog and her puppy lying next to each other. The mother's tail turns to the left, her head is angled slightly to the right, looking down at her offspring. The puppy looks straight ahead, its pose an imitation of its mother’s, with forepaws extended. Under base, black writing says ‘ATHENS, Lwrnc. Dec. 1898’. A second inscription to the reverse of the base, ‘p.2123.
Chips from ears and a fracture at the back of the base repaired, tail of puppy missing. A rare subject.
