Part of a mould for a large Arretine ware bowl decorated with Dionysian motifs. The main field is divided by crossed thyrsoi linked by a garland of laurel leaves, from which bucrania hang; bunches of grapes and vine leaves below the thyrsoi. Within the space defined by the thyrsoi are two large masks: one depicting a youthful satyr, and the other a bearded silen, the latter remaining only in part. Both are adorned with wreaths of ivy leaves and berries. Upper rim decorated with a tongue frieze. Lower field with alternating acanthus and leaves of water plants. The exterior is smooth. The stamps used for the mask motifs are attributed to the Tigranus phase of the workshop of M. Perennius from Arretium (c.15 BC-10 AD). Reassembled from five fragments.
