The characterful head shows a 'grotesque' of a woman with wide grinning mouth showing her teach through full lips, the skin around her eyes is all swollen, her ears are large and stick out from under short curly hair held in place by a pointed hat. Thick lines indicate wrinkles around her eyes and mouth, deep naso-labial folds and a dimple on her chin add to the animation of the face. The surface has incrustation and areas of gesso remaining, the head broken off at the neck.
The proportions of this head hint to a possible identification of this showing an actor wearing a theatrical mask, which enveloped the whole head.
