This fragment from a large sarcophagus shows the remains of skilfully carved lettering from the central plaque on the sarcophagus which named the deceased and wished them well in the afterlife. It had a thick, stepped frame to separate it from the rest of the decoration. On the right is the beginning of an area of 'strigillation' - long s-shaped curves neatly lined against one another; a typical decorative motif of the period. A fragment without restoration.
