Formed from a thin-walled, clear yellow-green glass, the shallow dish with a central kick and a separately-attached, tall oval foot with diagonal tooled decoration on the exterior, the thickened rim folded outwards and over, the glass with air bubbles.
The decorative tooling on the foot is typical of dishes discovered at Karanis in Fayum, Egypt.

Joseph Maudslay was General Superintendent in charge of the construction of the Assuan-Luxor Railway Line, (1903-1906). The headquarters were at Minia, where he shared a house with Mr Howard Carter. This bowl was collected during this period.
